Beyond the limits of Rockwall, shopping center and store closures are signs of a shrinking retail market. Locally, sales tax remains steady, yet the evidence strongly suggests to me there will be big-box store vacancies coming our way.
What’s the point? The point is simple: all economic indicators and uncommon common sense warn us to be frugal, be wise stewards of tax dollars, avoid elaborate expenditures, preserve capital to be able to provide basic county services: justice and roads.
What’s the point? The point is this: courthouses are not happy places. Folks who lose their spouses, their children, their property and their freedom tend to be very, very unhappy. A juxtaposition of criminal courthouses and vulnerable populations of children is a really bad idea.

I write to oppose construction of the Rockwall County Government Center. In fact, I call upon Commissioners Court to stop all work and to seek a less-costly, reasonable location for holding criminal court.
The CBO also says health insurance premiums for millions of families across the country will go up by as much as 13% as a result of all the new government mandates contained in this bill—and continue to rise at the current unsustainable rate for nearly everyone else. And it's all going add to the mountain of debt we are already piling onto our kids and grandkids.
