Is Our Enemy Dead?
Americans from all walks of life and national origins converged en masse about “Ground Zero” and the White House to celebrate news of the death of Osama bin Laden. All major networks carried the stories, trumpeting our successful kill of the mastermind of the attack on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon on September 1, 2001. ABC news described it as “jubilation”. What says our instruction manual?
Rejoice not when your enemy falls, and let not your heart be glad when he stumbles or is overthrown, Lest the Lord see it and it be evil in His eyes and displease Him, and He turn away His wrath from him [to expend it upon you, the worse offender]. Proverbs 24:17-18 (AMP)
Who is Our Enemy?
Our enemy was alive long before we killed Osama bin Laden. In fact, our enemy was alive before Hitler was born. He and his army have been around us and with us since the foundations of the world were laid.
For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Ephesians 6:12 (KJV)
Demons and the Prince of Darkness – Satan – these are our enemies. They are invisible. They hate us for being formed in the likeness of God. Our demonic enemies incessantly work against us to steal, kill and destroy.
If you believe as I do that there is nothing capricious in nature, that God has woven an intricate tapestry of time which He designed, then you will probably understand the significance of today’s date – May 2, the second day of the month.
When I opened my Heritage Alliance daily prayer guide this morning, I sensed a warning from God. Not for a moment will I say to you that “I heard God speaking to me”. Yet, as someone who believes the Bible literally, everything about life, every detail of history is significant.
Heritage Alliance publishes a prayer calendar that features two government officials, starting with the top two, our President and our respective Governor, on the first of every month, then, in order of succession, two a day through the 30th of the month. If you are not already on the email list, you can enroll by clicking on this link.
Prayer focus for today, the 2nd of May, is the Vice President – the one next to succeed the President. Creepy, you say? Sobering, I say.
Let’s not rejoice over the death of our enemies. Rather, let’s turn our hearts to God with humble attitude and ask Him to be merciful to us. Let’s ask God to turn away his wrath from us, “the worse offender”.
