Kabuki Theater – The Proper Role of Government?

Ronald Reagan knew the proper role of government. As he pointed out, the most terrifying words in the English language are, ‘I’m from the government and I’m here to help.’

“I feel safer”, a passenger says of TSA screening. What if he knew all this TSA “safety” was little more than kabuki, you know, “security theater”? Would he feel as safe? Furthermore, what if Mr. “I feel safer” Passenger learned that airline and airport employees enter all spaces WITHOUT TSA screening? Well, we have to discount Pilots and all air crew members – for whatever reason, they are subjected to the same humiliation as John Q. Public.

Kabuki Theater - Feel Safer Now?

In a nut shell, the proper role of government is to secure your liberties, your property and to preserve your constitutional rights. Personal security is YOUR individual responsibility. As Founding Father Benjamin Franklin succinctly said, “Those who would give up Essential Liberty to purchase a little Temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety.”

Among synonyms to ‘tyranny’ one finds listed the words  ‘domination’, ‘authoritarianism’ and ‘unreasonableness’. Soon, no doubt, we shall add ‘safety’.
