Repeal the Fourth Amendment

What If?

If you knew a bill to repeal the Fourth Amendment was making its way through the halls of Congress, would you rise up in alarm? Of course you would. You would never tolerate repeal of any part of our Bill of Rights. Am I correct?

“The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.”

It Happened

It didn’t happen on Obama’s watch; it happened on George Bush’s watch. Obama is as culpable as Mr. Bush because he signed a four-year extension of three key components:

  • Warrantless roving wiretaps
  • Warrantless searches of business records (library records provision)
  • Warrantless surveillance of “lone wolves”, persons suspected of ‘terrorist related’ activities not linked to terrorist groups

It seemingly innocuous title – USA PATRIOT Act: Uniting and Strengthening America by Providing Appropriate Tools Required to Intercept and Obstruct Terrorism –  sounds genuinely patriotic, perfectly rational in light of the 911 attack on the World Trade Center.

Passage of the Patriot Act effectively nullified the Fourth Amendment.

Did Your Congressman Vote YAY or NAY?

Directly from the U.S. House of Representatives, here is the voting record:

Sadly, only three (3) Republican members of the House opposed it. One was Dr. Ron Paul (TX-14).

Challenge to Youth

The future of America lies in your capable hands. Elected offices are not reserved for middle-aged people. It was said by a former speaker of the U.S. House Tip O’Neil, “All politics is local” – not good grammar, but solid wisdom.  Your opportunity to revolutionize America and return our country to Constitutional government is now and the best place to start is right in your own hometown, your county and your school district.

Justice of the Peace – you do not have to be a lawyer, as required for all other judicial offices, and you can run for this office right out of High School. Age requirement is 18 and you can enjoy benefits and draw a nice salary.

You also qualify for Sheriff, Tax Assessor-Collector, County Commissioner and Constable. All these positions come with generous salaries, too. Refer to the Secretary of State’s website for Qualifications for Office.

I suggest you also consider running for School Board member.

City of Rockwall minimum age to sit on Council is 21 years.

Like most Americans, I tended to wholly trust government at all levels to “do the right thing”. Boy, was I wrong. Don’t wait until we go past the point of no return. Take responsibility for your own future now, because you are the ones who will be living with you. I and my fellow senior citizens will be long gone in a few years, leaving you “holding the bag”.

“Eternal vigilance is the price of liberty—power is ever stealing from the many to the few…. The hand entrusted with power becomes … the necessary enemy of the people. Only by continual oversight can the democrat in office be prevented from hardening into a despot: only by unintermitted Agitation can a people be kept sufficiently awake to principle not to let liberty be smothered in material prosperity.” – Wendell Phillips (1811-1884), Speech before the Massachusetts Anti-Slavery Society
