CARGO Rockwall Gun Club meets every second Thursday of each month at Soulman’s Bar-B-Que in Rockwall.
September Focus – YOUTH GUN SAFETY
Join us September 12 and bring your children and grandchildren for an interesting and engaging hour of learning gun safety techniques from experts on the subject.
Among the many Olympic competitive sports is youth shooting sports. Of all Olympic competitions, youth shooting sports does not require the tallest, fastest or strongest athlete. Rather, this sport is for those who learn patience, determination, organization skills, mental and physical control, safety awareness, goal setting, problem solving, and good citizenship/sportsmanship.
Aside from learning to be a thoroughly responsible citizen, there are numerous scholarships available to put responsible, skilled youth marksmen through college.
- Clint Brown – Rockwall County Game Warden
- Todd Williams – 4H Representative
- David Stroud – President, TSRA
Certified Concealed Handgun License instructor Jack Sukenik will be moderating the discussion.
My mom and a friend’s uncle taught me the basics of firearm safety when I was a boy six years of age. A couple things I learned at an early age were:
- Never point a gun at another person
- Always handle a gun as though it were loaded
When I was much older, just after my seventh birthday, Mom bought for me my first gun, a J.C. Higgins .22 caliber bolt-action rifle at the Victoria Sears-Roebuck store. It was the least expensive on the rack at $24.95. My youngest son now owns this rifle.
Over six decades of gun ownership, I have owned a number of weapons and no one was ever in danger by me or my weapons.
The point is this: It’s never too soon, children are never too young, to learn firearm safety.
Join us Thursday evening, 6 to 7 PM at Soulman’s Bar-B-Que in Rockwall for a fun learning experience. Come a little early to go through the serving line and to fine good seats in the private meeting room.
As always, our formal presentations begin promptly at 6 and end promptly at 7. Afterward, take all the time you want to talk with the experts. In addition to the featured speakers, you’ll have opportunity to visit with law enforcement officers, CHL instructors, Licensed Firearms Dealers, and others.
