Open Letter to Congressman Hall: It’s Time for a New Conservative Speaker of the House

December 15, 2013

Honorable Ralph M. Halljohn-boehner
104 N. San Jacinto St.
Rockwall, TX 75087-2508

Subject: John Boehner Must Go

Congressman Hall,

Career politicians like John Boehner in the House and Mitch McConnell over in the Senate grossly underestimate grassroots American voters. On the 11th of this month, ABC News reported the following remarks about TEA Party patriots by the Speaker:

“They’re using our members and they’re using the American people for their own goals. This is ridiculous. Listen, if you are for more deficit reduction, you are for this agreement.” – Source: ABC News, John Boehner’s Rare Rebuke Signals Line in the Sand on TEA Party

First and foremost, let’s set the record straight: we in the TEA Party movement aren’t “using the American people”; we ARE the American people. Second, House members like you, Congressman Hall, are actually listening  to us. What part of “representative government” is it Mr. Boehner doesn’t understand?

Congressman Hall, never before in history have voters been more enlightened. We follow legislation and unlike Nancy Pelosi we actually read the bills. It’s also important for our elected representatives and our senators to know that we collectively are by far more intelligent, infinitely more educated than the sum of Congress, the Executive Branch and the Judiciary. The seat of federal government has its hundreds; we number over 300,000,000 outside of the ‘Beltway’.

Let’s go back to the Florida Senate race where Marco Rubio and Charlie Crist were fairly evenly matched financially. You may remember how the GOP executive committee voted 73-9 in favor of ‘anointing’ Crist, but Rubio stomped him 70% to 30% at the polls. Marco was and is a “TEA Party” guy. Grassroots Republicans elected Rubio over the wishes of the GOP elite establishment.

Next, closer to home, let’s examine the win of Senator Ted Cruz. Two years following Rubio’s win, we conservative Texans – TEA Party ‘Crazies, according to The Daily Kos – sent Ted to replace Kay Bailey Hutchison. Grassroots Republicans elected Ted Cruz over the wishes of the GOP elite establishment.

TEA stands for Taxed Enough Already. Conservative “seasoned” Republicans get it. Millennials (the ones left holding the bag to pay for ObamaCare) get it. High school students get it. Even my grandchildren under the age of twelve years get it. The spending has to be restrained, taxes must be reduced and the size of government must be drastically scaled back.

Congressman Hall, it’s time for a true conservative to hold the gavel. We want a real man who can stand up to the radical left wing of the Democrat party.

I hail from a very conservative part of Texas, the gulf coast. I was raised to believe that spending more than you take in is foolish and a certain path to bankruptcy. Yes, I’m one of those ‘crazy’ Texas patriots with a dose of ‘Alamo fever’. People like me choose to stand on immutable principles. We have these ‘crazy’ ideas like sound money, capital formation, American exceptionalism, love of country and duty to our fellow Americans. Oh, yeah, I drive a Chevrolet, eat hot dogs and love apple pie.

Congressman, look about you. Talk with fellow Texas lawmakers. Isn’t it time to have that conversation?

PS – I am very thankful that instead of staying inside the Beltway to party on weekends, you come home to us. It’s amazing how you keep in touch and up to date on the issues that matter to us most.

If you agree, please spend a few seconds to contact Congressman Ralph Hall. Tell him you want a conservative Speaker to replace John Boehner.
