An article from NPR asks the question, “Why Do Young People Like Socialism More Than Older People Do?”
U.S. millennials yearn for socialism. Despite facts of history, even young Russians today embrace and strive for socialism.
Bernie Sanders’ groupies think socialism means “common ownership”. To that, I must say, no, communism is common ownership. Here are the basics of three economic models.
Socialism: You retain private ownership of property, but the government tells you how to use it. This is “slavery”.
Communism: The government owns all property and allows you to use some of it, if you are a true believer. This is “common ownership” and “slavery”.
Capitalism: You own property and you vote for representatives whom you tell how you will use your own property. This is “liberty”.
My dear Cuban friends were born into a communist society that celebrates El Socialismo. In that island country, the communist-socialist system is called La Revolucion (the revolution).
Young Cubans love La Revolucion so much, they risk all to escape it to find freedom on U.S. soil. In contrast, young Americans love socialism so much they rush to visit Cuba.
Those youth who have experienced socialism want nothing to do with it. Those youth who have no experience with socialism cry out for it. Such a conundrum.
So, what is the answer? How is it American and Russian youth in 2015 would yearn for socialism? The answer is simple: Atheism. The teachings of shallow philosophies excite this or that group of young people to this or that “cause”.
George Santayana famously said, “Experience has repeatedly confirmed that well-known maxim of Bacon’s that ‘a little philosophy inclineth a man’s mind to atheism, but depth in philosophy bringeth men’s minds about to religion.’ At the same time, when Bacon penned that sage epigram… he forgot to add that the God to whom depth in philosophy brings back men’s minds is far from being the same from whom a little philosophy estranges them.”
Yes, atheism. In fact, OFFICIAL ATHEISM enforced in our public schools and universities is at the root of shallow philosophies that incline young minds toward socialism.
How do we turn these young minds about? How do we point them toward successful living?
Public education is beyond the philosophical “tipping point”. It is utterly impossible to restore sound philosophy to public institutions of learning.
We as mature adults have an obligation to God and our progeny to reaffirm Biblical truths. As it is written, you shall know the truth and the truth will set you free. Naturally, if we adults are to teach Biblical truths to our offspring, then we adults best learn them for ourselves. Long ago I learned the simplicity of training dogs: the trainer must know more than the dog.
If the cruise ship upon which you were sailing was sinking into the abyss and there was but one lifeboat, you would hasten to that solitary salvation.
God is our refuge. The nation sinks into the abyss of atheism and socialism and God is our only hope.
Proverbs 18:10 says, “The name of the Lord is a strong tower; The righteous runs to it and is safe and set on high [far above evil].”
Are you running to that strong tower? Time is short, young Americans.
