We elected President Trump because we want a president who follows the rule of law – So, why attack Syria?

I understand the president’s dismay at seeing death and destruction in Syria. Yes, photos of dead children and brutalized families break my heart, too.

The question of the hour is this: What is our justification for attacking Syria?

Jus Ad Bellum (the right to war)

Just cause is the most important condition of Jus Ad Bellum. In this case, at what time and in what place did the Syrian government attack the United States of America or an ally with whom we have a mutual defense treaty?

The most common outcome for the aggressor country is “he who fires the first shot loses”. I point to these examples

  • The Civil War – the South fired the first shot at Fort Sumpter
  • WW1 – We usually attribute the genesis of this war to Germany, but it was actually a series of aggressive, unjust wars that included Austria’s attack on Serbia, and Germany’s aggression against France, Belgium, Russia, Luxembourg, England, Norway, Sweden, and finally the United States. Germany and Austria lost.
  • WW2 – Ditto Germany and Germany lost in even greater measure than after WW1.
  • Afghanistan – Russian aggression against Afghanistan was met by al Qaeda that the USA funded and armed. Russia lost first. The final outcome, though not apparent now, will be a huge loss by the USA. Look to 911 and subsequent radical Islamist attacks against us.
  • Iraq 1.0 – We handily won the first round when President George H. W. Bush ordered troops to defend Kuwait and Saudi Arabia, our strategic allies. (Oil was of vital importance to us at the time.) Saddam Hussein started it; we finished it. We won, the lost.
  • Iraq 2.0 – President Bush 43, at the behest of war hawks,  set out to depose Saddam Hussein and ‘liberate’ the Iraqi people. Whereas Christians and Jews were able to live and thrive in Iraq, today they are either dead or they fled the country. Did we win? We fired first and we lost. Big time.
  • Libya – Obama unlawfully attacked the Libyan government, deposed its ruler, and now radical Islamists control the country. Perhaps you have forgotten the Benghazi scandal. We fired first and we lost.
  • Syria – We fired first and you can already predict the outcome.

I wholly agree with Senator Rand Paul: Trump needs Congress to authorize military action in Syria

Article I, Section 8, enumerated powers of Congress number 10: To declare War, grant Letters of Marque and Reprisal, and make Rules concerning Captures on Land and Water.

It’s impossible to fire upon and bomb a city without causing ‘collateral damage’, meaning the deaths and dismemberments of innocent civilians.

I pray for the president to be surrounded by wise, Godly counselors. Now I purpose to pray even more ardently for him to give heed to those wise and Godly counselors.

Not a Rumor: A Great Revival Is on Its Way

Loren Cunningham - founder of YWAM

“Loren Cunningham is the founder of Youth With a Mission (YWAM), an organization that has equipped and sent more than five million people on short-term mission trips. God called him to ministry at age 13, and later gave him the vision to call and equip waves of young people to wash up on every continent on earth to share the gospel message.” – Voice of the Martyrs

In the following podcast, Steve Strang interviews Loren Cunningham who speaks to the future and a coming spiritual revival the likes of which the world has never experienced.

Podcast: YWAM Founder Loren Cunningham Believes a Great Revival Is on Its Way

Whereas in times past, pastors, priests, evangelists, and leading Christians have been honored leaders in America, we are today reviled as homophobic, sexist, and hateful. 52 of the 55 signers of the U.S. Constitution were so honored. In today’s world, the unbelievers revile Vice President Pence because he will not dine alone with any woman other than his wife.

Around 1,960 years ago, the Apostle Paul, writing to Roman Christians, foretold present-day circumstances.

  • The people become unthankful, foolish in their hearts, and reprobate (morally depraved and unprincipled)
  • Professing to be wise, they become fools
  • Cease to honor God
  • Rampant homosexuality among men and women

Romans chapter 1:28-32 NKJV

“26 For this reason, God gave them up to vile passions. For even their women exchanged the natural use for what is against nature. 27 Likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust for one another, men with men committing what is shameful, and receiving in themselves the penalty of their error which was due.  28 And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a debased mind, to do those things which are not fitting; 29 being filled with all unrighteousness, sexual immorality, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, evil-mindedness; they are whisperers, 30 backbiters, haters of God, violent, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, 31 undiscerning, untrustworthy, unloving, unforgiving, unmerciful; 32 who, knowing the righteous judgment of God, that those who practice such things are deserving of death, not only do the same but also approve of those who practice them.”

Persecution is not coming – it’s here now

Loren Cunningham says the keys to overcoming persecution as we move into this next global revival are Tenacity, Endurance, Kindness.

Action

As God consolidates his sons and daughters, local churches move into powerful and Revive Texaseffective strategies to win the lost and to build the Kingdom of God.

My church, Gateway Church, with multiple campuses in the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex, labors to make deep connections in our several communities through Revive Texas outreach during the 50 days between the Passover (Easter) and Pentecost. Learn Gateway Church’s strategy via this link:
