Venezuela is a Poster Child for Socialism – They got what they wanted and now don’t want what they got,.

HAVANA, Cuba (Reuters) 1 May 2001 — Cuban prostitutes may be the target of a state campaign to prevent a sex trade on the Caribbean island but they can boast high educational standards, President Fidel Castro said on Monday.

One day when I was down in Brazil, an Argentinian asked me ‘Is it true that some girls who are university graduates sometimes practice prostitution?”‘Castro said in a rare public reference to a highly sensitive subject for Cuba’s government.

I replied instantly, without thinking, ‘That proves prostitutes in Cuba have a university level,’ ” he added, laughing at the anecdote given during a lengthy speech to close a Cuban workers’ congress in Havana.

Cuba is rife with prostitution which is a mainstay of sexual tourism. La prostitución infantil (child prostitution), chiefly during the “special period”, is still available to sex tourists that have the money. Cubans call prostitutes jineteras (female) and jineteros (male). These terms derive from the Spanish verb jinetear (to mount a horse). This is what godless socialism has done for Cuba and Cuba is paying it forward to Venezuela.

There are people who prostitute themselves because they love the money. But, in the main, prostitution in any country tracks the poverty level. The greater the poverty, the more prevalent the prostitution.

Venezuela: 21st Century Socialism Is So Great That Doctors and Teachers Are Now Hooking For Food

Is socialism the true evil? No, socialism is but a tool of the master: communism. Communism is idolatry in which communist tyrants posit themselves as providers of all the people need, a role in direct opposition to the true provider, Jehovah Jireh, the Lord our Provider. To reinforce his rigid communistic vision for China, Xi Jinping assumes the mantle of Mao Zedong and seeks to rid the country of Christianity.

What do I see in the near future? I see China moving in to support the corrupt, tyrannical president of Venezuela. I also anticipate China underpinning the communist Cuban government.

We all want a peaceful, prosperous future for ourselves and our progeny, but such will not be the case. As the Lord Jesus prophesied, there will be wars, rumors of wars, damaging earthquakes throughout the world, famines, and plagues.

Venezuelans actually chose socialism, that is to say, the lower class Amerindians voted for Hugo Chavez who was able to keep his campaign promises until the oil company ran out of money. The same people who voted in the socialists got what they wanted, but now don’t want what they got.

We who are members of the Body of Christ will overcome all difficulties and even prosper while others fail. Hay venezolanos prósperos por doquiera. These prosperous Venezuelans generally are Christians. They have either moved their wealth and themselves out of Venezuela or adapted to conditions by means of clever workarounds.

And there was a famine in the land, beside the first famine that was in the days of Abraham…Then Isaac sowed in that land, and received in the same year an hundredfold: and the Lord blessed him. Genesis 12:1-12 KJV

The above predictions will be very bad news for those unprepared. How does one prepare for such disasters? The only way to prepare, to overcome all the evil that will befall us, is to come into a personal relationship with the King of Kings, Jesus Christ.

the most expensive mile on earth

“The estimated cost of the Long Island Rail Road project, known as “East Side Access,” has ballooned to $12 billion, or nearly $3.5 billion for each new mile of track — seven times the average elsewhere in the world. The recently completed Second Avenue subway on Manhattan’s Upper East Side and the 2015 extension of the No. 7 line to Hudson Yards also cost far above average, at $2.5 billion and $1.5 billion per mile, respectively.”

Read more from the NY Times:

New York City ranks number 2 of the ten most costly cities in the entire country. By the way, not even one Texas city makes the list.

How does this happen? The top ten list identifies unbridled incompetence and lack of accountability to the taxpayers.

By no means do we have the issues New Yorkers have to bear. Our city is well-run and efficient. The cost comparisons of Texas cities calculation includes housing, food, motor fuel, health insurance, utilities, and transportation. Transportation is a big-ticket item for our residents who commute to work in Dallas.

Rockwall not only lives within its income, city property taxes have actually declined over the years as sales tax revenue has dramatically grown. The sales tax revenue is due to our strategic location along Interstate Highway 30 and our metamorphosis from a bedroom community to a mercantile center.

Without a doubt, every resident of our city knows the name of the President, our two state senators, and probably our U.S. Representative. I know for a fact very few know the names of our

The latest shenanigan by Texas Representative Sheila Jackson Lee unleashed a torrent of news stories detailing her mistreatment of staff, airlines, etc. This last installment whereby she took over a first-class upgrade from another woman passenger was, apparently, the proverbial straw that broke the camel’s back.

Can Your Right Hand Keep a Secret from your Left?

A hard-working young mother who lives in my city wanted to raise her children in her own home. Her circumstances qualified her for a Habitat for Humanity project. She invested her ‘sweat equity’ in its construction and the day came to close on the modest mortgage and move the family into the new quarters.

I stopped by to learn the young mother’s progress only to find her face flooded with tears, her eyes reddened from weeping. Alarmed, I asked the cause of her tears.

Earlier that day, a woman unknown to her knocked at the door, asking to see the new home. After the stranger was given a tour of the house, the young mother asked why the visitor would want to see her home. The stranger explained: “I want to pay off your mortgage.” The tears were tears of joy. This family moved into a debt-free brick home. That anonymous act of charity forever changed lives.

The graphic below features two men, Herbert Hoover and Myron T. Herrick, whose charitable acts saved the lives of many people. What distinguishes them, one from the other, is the way they carried out their respective benevolence. Mr. Hoover insisted on publicity. Even after reading this far, you still have no idea the identity of Mr. Herrick.

president herbert hoover on left - ambassador myron t herrick on the right

How is it possible that Herbert Hoover’s charity was widely publicized, but you haven’t a clue about the selfless services from Myron Herrick’s hand? The answer is found in the Bible.

Rabbi Jesus taught Charity 101 to his disciples and the lesson plan is found in the New Testament from which I quote:

Watch out! Don’t do your good deeds publicly, to be admired by others, for you will lose the reward from your Father in heaven. When you give to someone in need, don’t do as the hypocrites do—blowing trumpets in the synagogues and streets to call attention to their acts of charity! I tell you the truth, they have received all the reward they will ever get. But when you give to someone in need, don’t let your left hand know what your right hand is doing. Give your gifts in private, and your Father, who sees everything, will reward you.” – Jesus Christ, Matthew 6:1-4

Have you experienced the death of a child? Is the mortgage company about to foreclose on your home loan? Has someone whom you believed to be a close friend betrayed you? Perhaps your spouse suddenly announced he or she found someone with whom he or she preferred to live. Such issues tend to draw all our attention to ourselves.

Regardless your situation, there will always be someone in greater distress than you.

Locally, churches feature food pantries, financial assistance, counseling, and encouragement. The Helping Hands organization, chiefly funded by our citizens and participating churches, provides ample opportunities to serve others.

CARE Center Ministries (CCM) located in the Pleasant Grove area of Dallas actually had its genesis right here in the City of Rockwall over thirty years ago. As stated on the website, “CareCenter Ministries was founded in 1986 with a calling to address the issues of addiction, poverty and crime through the power of the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. poignantly remarked, “Life’s persistent and most urgent question is “What are you doing for others?””

The question that begs an answer: Will you be a Hoover or a Herrick in 2018?

Choose Wisely, Millennials

I address this posting to American millennials, the people who will soon hold the future of our nation in their hands.

Leading up to the 1998 Venezuelan elections, Venezuela enjoyed sitting atop the world’s largest proven oil reserves. In contrast to the enormous value of Venezuela’s oil wealth, 42.8% of the people lived in poverty, according to, 26 March 2006.

In 2008, USA Today published an article written by Gustavo Coronel The Corruption of Democracy in Venezuela. I quote from this article republished by the Cato Institute:

Venezuela has been characterized by the persistent presence of political and financial corruption in public administration. In 1813 and, later, in 1824, national hero Simon Bolivar felt it necessary to issue decrees defining corruption as “the violation of the public interest.” He established the death penalty for “all public officers guilty of stealing 10 pesos or more,” including “those judges who disobey these decrees.” In 1875, the finance minister at that time confessed, “Venezuela does not know to whom it owes money and how much. Our books are 20 years behind.” One hundred years later, the General Comptroller under Pres. Luis Herrera would describe the state of the country’s finances in almost identical terms, as “a system totally out of control.”

One historian describes Simon Bolivar as a liberator who scorned liberalism, a soldier who disparaged militarism, and a republican who admired monarchy.

Statues of Bolivar can be found throughout South America. Leftist rulers like Fidel Castro and Hugo Chávez fete Bolivar as a champion of the poor, but such was not the case.

At first glance, the Bolivarian Revolution appears to mirror the American Revolution but there is a distinct and unmistakable difference between the two struggles for independence.

The American Revolution represented the interests of all British colonialists, rich and poor. Simon Bolivar’s revolution chiefly served the interests of the creoles. It is apparent he understood that a democratic government like that of the United States was impractical for most of Latin America, probably because he recognized that indigenous voters and descendants of African slaves had not the history or values to make a republic work. Bolivar leaned more to authoritarian government. (I hasten to point out the fact that indigenous people and slaves were also unable to vote in the U.S. at that time.)

The consequences of Bolivar’s ever-evolving vision of government can be seen in Venezuela and other Latin American countries today.

Over the many years since the end of the Bolivarian Revolution, the creoles (those of European ancestry) enjoyed prosperity and freedom. It was this upper class that ruled the country. The reader can understand how Bolivar’s preference for authoritarianism inherently divided the country.

Hugo Chávez, his successor Nicolás Maduro and their supporters, arose from the Venezuelan underclass, the poor. Both men are of Amerindian (indigenous) ancestry.

Initially, the radical conversion of Venezuelan governance from a republican government to full-blown socialism worked. Since the only money over which Chávez margaret-thatcher-the-problem-with-socialismhad discretionary power was the PDVSA revenue, he used the oil money to set up food stores and services for the poor of the country. He exchanged Venezuelan oil for Cuban aid in the form of Soviet-style government administrators and medical personnel.

Diversion of PDVSA funds from the care and feeding of the state-owned oil company to social programs led to the inevitable decline of oil income: production, transmission, and refinement of oil assets fell into a state of disrepair. Venezuela became a debtor nation where today, Christmas Day 2017, inflation is forecast to be an astronomical 2,687% in 2018.

Socialism works well until the government runs out of money.

What is Venezuela like today? The creoles continue to flee the country, many now living in Florida, others throughout the U.S. The poor remain behind. Women, including school teachers, mothers, and medical workers, have turned to prostitution to support their families. Caracas has become one of the most dangerous cities on the face of the earth. The poor are still poor. The grand promises of socialismo have utterly failed.

What hope is there for Venezuela? Jesus Christ is the only hope for all nations.

A recent poll of millennials reveals nearly half prefer socialism to capitalism. Socialism represents government control; capitalism represents freedom.

Choose wisely, millennials.

My prayer is for an outpouring of the Holy Spirit on all nations. There are no human policies that can save Venezuela or preserve our hard-won American freedoms. As it is written, “For the Lord is the Spirit, and wherever the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom“. Only Jesus saves.

Merry Christmas, America.

Why the Strident Opposition to School Choice?

In The Case Against School Choice, the NEA trumpets the union’s rationale for opposing school choice.

  1. School Choice “holds students in public and private schools to different standards“. This is true. Private Schools do not teach to the tests but are student-centered.
  2. There is no need to set up new threats to schools for not performing.” Really? Quality education in an atmosphere of spiritual and intellectual freedom threatens public schools?
  3. “Student achievement ought to be the driving force behind any education reform initiative.” The NEA agrees education reform is badly needed but rejects any influence by parents.
  4. Vouchers were not designed to help low-income children.” Untrue. Parents have had to move their children from private schools to public schools as the cost of living increased and wages have not. Low-income children whose parents want a Christian education for their children are the people most affected. Vouchers would alleviate the problem.
  5. A pure voucher system would only encourage economic, racial, ethnic, and religious stratification in our society.” Nonsense. Bishop Dunne Catholic School, has an ethnic makeup of approximately 1/3 black, 1/3 brown, and 1/3 white and the school is located in a minority community in the southwest area of Dallas.
  6. About 85 percent of private schools are religious. Vouchers tend to be a means of circumventing the Constitutional prohibitions against subsidizing religious practice and instruction.” Wrong, again. The First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution guarantees the protection of our right to the free exercise of religion. This statement alone reveals animosity toward the NEA labor union to Christians.

The TSTA (the ‘A’ stands for ‘association’, but it functions as a labor union – my opinion) also stridently opposes School Choice. The term ‘association’ is used because Texas is a right-to-work state.

On February 28, 2017, the TSTA boasted Texas House education chief declares school choice bill DOA.  Joe Straus acolytes like Cindy Burkett and Dan Huberty followed the lead of the liberal speaker of the House in opposition to the 2016 Texas State GOP Platform, item number 147, School Choice, which states:

We believe that all children should have access to quality education. We support the right to choose public, private, charter, or home education. We support the distribution of educational funds in a manner that they follow the student to any school, whether public, private, charter, or home school through means of tax exemptions and/or

I was a delegate to that convention.

The Texas Home School Coalition succinctly makes the case for school choice:

For 30-plus years, THSC’s position has been to protect and empower parents to make decisions for their children, especially regarding their education. In the 1980s we fought against those who argued that parents were not qualified to teach their children at home so should not be allowed to home school. Our foundational argument against this was that parents have a fundamental, constitutional right to direct the care, control and upbringing of their children and should, therefore, have the right to home school.

Joe Straus will not be speaker next term. Should we reward his lieutenants with another term in office? I say, no.

State Senator Bob Hall is the SD-2 senatorial candidate who stands by the will of the Republican Party of Texas by voting consistently in accord with the party platform.

Learn more about Senator Bob Hall and Representative Cindy Burkett via this link: Texas SD-2 Republican Candidates – How They Compare on Key Issues.

Relatively few students now attend or will in the future attend private schools because the majority of parents are content to leave their children in public schools. This is aboutBOB HALL FOR - CINDY BURKETT AGAINST freedom of thought (conscience) and freedom of religion – natural God-given rights.

I am thankful Senator Bob Hall has been faithful to keep his promises and to follow the will of the State Republican Party platform.
