Throughout Judeo-Christian history, the father has been the head of the family. This father-knows-best model changed dramatically in the twentieth century as the family hierarchy underwent an egalitarian metamorphosis. The earnings of women increased and either approached or exceeded the earnings of men while the size of families became much smaller.
“…this shift in the distribution of power within the household is intimately
connected to economic and demographic changes that occurred during the same period. More specifically, the decline in family size and the improvement in the economic opportunities for women have empowered children within the household and transformed parenting styles…A decline in family size reduces competition between siblings for resources from their parents while an increase in female earnings leads to greater competition between parents for the love and affection of their children. The combined effect improves the bargaining position of children and explains why we moved towards a family in which the children rule.” – When Children Rule – Parenting in Modern Families
Family authority changed from one head of the family to two, then to three.
A former pastor would warn us against the consequences of having more than one head of the family. Referring to monster movies in which there were two-headed or three-headed creatures, he would say, “Remember that anything with two or more heads is a monster.”
A school shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida precipitated teacher-facilitated student walkouts and protests. One teen boy became the darling of late-night television and liberal news broadcasts. This particular young man became the hood ornament of the gun-control advocacy movement. Students died and gun owners and guns are the culprits, according to this newly-discovered expert-on-all-things.
It was Founding Father James Madison who penned the first ten amendments to the Constitution, the Bill of Rights.
The first 10 amendments to the Constitution make up the Bill of Rights. Written by James Madison in response to calls from several states for greater constitutional protection for individual liberties, the Bill of Rights lists specific prohibitions on governmental power. The Virginia Declaration of Rights, written by George Mason, strongly influenced Madison. – The Bill of Rights Institute
Municipal, county, and state governments are yielding to the demands of a high-school senior to disarm us. Actually, liberal judges and lawmakers ignorant of or indifferent to our history are already predisposed to exercise unconstitutional seizures of privately-owned firearms. The uninformed, historically-illiterate high school senior is a catalyst, a self-appointed authority that enabled an avalanche of government actions that threaten the freedom of all Americans.
How do we preserve our liberty? The answer is simple, but the new tyrants will not go away quietly in the night.
The cure is an open secret written in God’s Word, the Holy Bible.
The Biblical model of authority starts with God at the top of the chart, the father, then the mother, and last of all the children.
God sent his son Jesus Christ as a sacrifice to atone for the sins of all mankind. In the New Testament, Ephesians 5 prescribes the hierarchy of authority in the family, specifically the relationship of husbands and wives.
Ephesians 5:25 says, “Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for her”, meaning husbands are to love their wives to the point of laying down their lives for the wives, to assume all responsibility for everything that happens within the context of the marriage.
My wife and I have this little verbal exercise. I will say to her, “I love you more than you love me.” To this, she answers, “Your supposed to.”
Ephesians 6:1-3 subordinates the children to the parents, saying, “Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. “Honor your father and mother,” which is the first commandment with promise: “that it may be well with you and you may live long on the earth.” This is the Fifth of the Ten Commandments, by the way.
The American family has become a three-headed monster. Our only defense against this monster is to return to God’s standards for the family. Truly, our Heavenly Father knows best.
