The Ten Commandments of Exodus 20 were written on two stone tablets. The first five address man’s relationship with God; the latter five address man’s relationship with his fellow man.
It is the Fifth Commandment that draws my interest ahead of Mothers Day 2018.
“Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long upon the land which the Lord your God is giving you.”
Our requisite duty to honor our parents is not a social compact or dinner table etiquette. It’s a duty to God.
Like a salmon returning to his spawning ground, I return to my own today. My maternal grandparents whom I never knew are buried there. Last weekend I visited Hawley Cemetery where my mother lies at rest.
This Mothers Day I urge my friends and blog readers to be intentional about your duty to God. Honoring our mothers also honors God.
