KHOU-TV report: Riley Garcia’s pastor said Riley died a true hero. He says Riley held the classroom door shut and let other kids run to safety before he got shot. Riley Garcia died saving the lives of others during the Santa Fe school shooting.
God gave us all the natural right to Life, and we each bear the burden, the duty, of protecting the lives of others. I refer you to Proverbs 24:10-11 NIV
“If you falter in a time of trouble,
how small is your strength!
Rescue those being led away to death;
hold back those staggering toward slaughter.”
Article 1, Section 23 of the Texas Bill of Rights follows the above scriptural principles.
Rights don’t stand alone. Duty, something that one is expected or required to do by moral or legal obligation, is the twin sister to natural rights. We have the right to defend ourselves AND the duty, the obligation, to defend the defenseless.
Riley Garcia knew his rights. Riley also knew his duty to defend others.
What about you?
“Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.” Jesus Christ (John 15:13 NIV)
