Riches to Rags – The Story of Socialism in Venezuela (and America)

Venezuela is a mineral-rich country, vast oil reserves, gold, and diamonds. Before the people of Venezuela elected Hugo Chávez, the country enjoyed an oil boom.

During and after the oil boom became a bust, education dramatically increased. An analysis by economists Daniel Ortega and Lant Pritchett found, “The notion that education—a key component of human capital—has either no relationship or a negative relationship to real wages is counterintuitive.”

Anatomy of an Economic Collapse

Venezuela became a petri dish for socialism. Hugo Chávez was going to do socialism ‘right’. According to the Encyclopedia Britannica, “Chávez’s political platform promised to rid the country of corruption, help the poor, and reduce the power of elites. He pledged to write a new constitution and remake Venezuelan democracy.” Chávez attributed Venezuelan poverty to the wealthy elites.

What was the outcome of his social experiment?

As Winston Churchill observed, “Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery.”

Before the Chávez ‘Bolivarian revolution’, the wealthy elites were the business owners, bankers, investors, and governmental leaders.

At the time I write, the new wealthy elites are the governmental leaders and military ‘brass’. Turning your attention to our own situation, a rising chorus of democratic socialists, starting with Barack Hussein Obama, strive to remake our beloved republic into a ‘democracy’, a form of government anathema to our founding fathers.

Maxine Waters threatens to take over banking and financial institutions. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Bernie Sanders, with the approval of Democratic Party leaders, promote ‘free’ medical services, free education, a new ‘tax the rich’ scheme, and higher minimum wage. How do they expect to pay for all the free stuff?

BTW – The rich are the people who pay over 80% of all taxes at this moment in time.

With all this bad news comes more bad news. Fox News 1/4/2019 | Americans warming to socialism over capitalism, polls show

As President Reagan remarked, “It isn’t so much that liberals are ignorant. It’s just that they know so many things that aren’t so.”

We Americans are facing a probable ‘Bolivarian revolution’ as happened in Cuba and Venezuela if the general spiritual health of our people does not turn around. Only a spiritual revolution can defeat a Bolivarian revolution.

Hope springs eternal.

Dutch Sheets, 2/4/2019, “A revival of monumental proportions is the only hope we have to see the hearts and minds of multiplied millions turn to God. If it is the only hope—then with God, it is inevitable.

If the lessons of history and the wisdom of great men were sufficient to preserve our nation, this would already be a work in progress, but such is not the case.

We are in a spiritual battle for the life of our nation and Israel. Socialism is but a stepping stone to communism which is full-blown atheism in which the state posits itself as a god. I point to communist China, the largest body of Christ anywhere in the world, as a preview of what will happen to America if the forces of evil gain control.

The democratic socialists, blind to the truth, work to set up an idolatrous communist government from sea to shining sea, from open border to open border.

America is seen as the last best hope by people throughout the world, but this is a false hope at best. The last and best hope for all people of the world is Jesus Christ.

May God have mercy on us and may He reveal Jesus Christ to the American people, for the sake of the entire world.

As Dutch Sheets says, if revival is the only hope—then with God, it is inevitable.
