Some years ago, a French businessman and I discussed the probable reunification of the two German republics. Was this a good idea or a bad idea? He answered, “John, I love Germany so much, I believe there should always be two of them.”
Post-WW2 West Germany not only recovered from the ravages of war. It became an economic and industrial powerhouse of innovation and prosperity.
Socialist East Germany, 45 years under the heel of the Socialist-Communist USSR boot, developed its own character. New generations of Germans were born, raised and indoctrinated with Marxist ideas.
FYI – Angela Merkel was born in the west but raised in the east due to her father’s assignment as pastor to a Lutheran church in Perleberg.

The question of the hour for me: why do contemporary German socialists ignore their own history?
Cognitive scientists Hugo Mercier and Dan Sperber probably have the best answer. The authors of “The Enigma of Reason” challenge the reliability of human reasoning. If reason is so reliable, why do we produce so much thoroughly reasoned nonsense?
“Reason, [Mercer and Spereber] argue with a compelling mix of real-life and experimental evidence, is not geared to solitary use, to arriving at better beliefs and decisions on our own. What reason does, rather, is help us justify our beliefs and actions to others, convince them through argumentation, and evaluate the justifications and arguments that others address to us.”
Bernie Sanders, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and other socialists promote socialism to justify their beliefs. In other words, to the democratic socialists, socialism is a belief system. I venture to say it is a religion.
The end of socialism is communism which is indisputably idolatry. I refer the reader to the first two of the Ten Commandments.
In summary, we cannot win arguments with the avowed socialists but we can inform our fellow Americans of the truth.
Unlike socialism, capitalism is not a belief system; capitalism is the natural exchange of goods and services among a free people.
Human reasoning cannot withstand the Grace of God, as expressed in Philippians 2:13, “for it is God who works in you both to will and to do for His good pleasure”.
