Is There a Dog?

Are you familiar with the story of the dyslexic, agnostic insomniac who lay awake all night wondering if there is a Dog?

Dyslexia is “a reading disorder in which the person has difficulty in interpreting relationships in space, distinguishing shapes, or in integrating information taken in by hearing and sight.”

I see spiritual dyslexia among our fellow Americans, a gratitude disorder in which people have difficulty interpreting the Word of God, distinguishing between right and wrong, and in integrating the grace of God with daily living.

As it is written, “Nor is [God] worshiped with men’s hands, as though He needed anything, since He gives to all life, breath, and all things. And He has made from one blood every nation of men to dwell on all the face of the earth, and has determined their preappointed times and the boundaries of their dwellings, so that they should seek the Lord, in the hope that they might grope for Him and find Him, though He is not far from each one of us; for in Him we live and move and have our being…”.

Do the industries of mankind alter the weather? Climate-change/global-warming activists think so. Have you any idea how tiny the sum of all mankind is in relation to the universe?

God is sovereign over all His creation, the wind and the waves (Matthew 8:26-27), the rain (Acts 14:17), and geological phenomena like earthquakes and volcanoes (Psalm 104:32).

It is said today that Benjamin Franklin was the ‘least religious’ Founding Father. Consider his perspective on the sovereignty of God. “I have lived, Sir, a long time, and the longer I live, the more convincing proofs I see of this truth—that God governs in the affairs of men.”

The CBN Daily Devotional this morning, titled Uninhibited Praise brought to mind my own experiences with impoverished people – “the poor”. Homes with dirt floors, little more than a ragged cloth to cover a doorway, holes in the ground for toilets – and the people joyously thanking God for his goodness.

The rising cries for all-out socialism – free healthcare, free food, free housing, free tuition – are demonstrations of practical atheism, idolatry, looking to human governors for sustenance.

As for me and my household, we will serve the Lord with thanksgiving for all He has provided us, regardless of the circumstances, regardless of the humanistic tirades against God and his people.

By no means should anyone lie awake at night wondering if there is a Dog.

Soli Deo Gloria
