The 44th president sought to “fundamentally change America”.
Words have meanings. Fundamental means “serving as, or being an essential part of, a foundation or basis; of great importance; being an original or primary source; being a starting point“
Mike Bloomberg vis-à-vis Pres. Donald Trump
Mr. Bloomberg’s goal is to ‘rebuild America’. Rebuild it into what?
Pres. Trump’s goal is to restore America to the greatness witnessed by Alexis de Tocqueville (July 29, 1805 – April 16, 1859).
In his book Democracy In America, de Tocqueville wrote,
“I sought for the greatness and genius of America in her commodious harbors and her ample rivers – and it was not there . . . in her fertile fields and boundless forests and it was not there . . . in her rich mines and her vast world commerce – and it was not there . . . in her democratic Congress and her matchless Constitution – and it was not there. Not until I went into the churches of America and heard her pulpits aflame with righteousness did I understand the secret of her genius and power. America is great because she is good, and if America ever ceases to be good, she will cease to be great.”
America’s greatness will not be restored by making government bigger. On the contrary, America will become great again as the size of the federal government is made smaller. This is the track record of President Donald Trump.
The size and reach of government are inversely proportional to individual liberty. We do need self-government, what the Bible describes as self-control – dominio propio in Spanish.
Self-control, self-rule, is one of the fruits of the Spirit as described in Galatians 5:22-23.
