Why Bob Hall is the Right Choice for Texas Senate District 2

BOB HALL FOR - CINDY BURKETT AGAINST - email graphicThe Hunt County GOP held a debate for GOP Primary candidates on Feb. 1. I extracted two video segments featuring Sen. Bob Hall and Rep. Cindy Burkett debating the issues of School Choice and Pro-Life. View this portion of the debate between Bob Hall and Cindy Burkett below.

Ms. Burkett’s idea of school choice is to limit choices between schools within a school district and she points to the Garland ISD for her example. She conflates charter schools with private schools, church schools, and home schools. It’s helpful to understand that charter schools have nothing to do with the School Choice issue; charter schools are public schools.

School Choice is Item #147 on the Texas State GOP Platform A which states:

We believe that all children should have access to quality education. We support the right to choose public, private, charter, or home education. We support the distribution of educational funds in a manner that they follow the student to any school, whether public, private, charter or home school through means of tax exemptions and/or credits.

Thousands of Texas delegates (including me) from 254 counties approved the platform. The platform serves as a standard by which Republican voters can evaluate lawmakers.

Rep. Burkett repeatedly uses the word “accountability” in her arguments AGAINST School Choice.

Senator Bob Hall points out the obvious, with respect to accountability. Of the 50 of these United States, Texas public schools rank 43rd, nationally. Texas families deserve the freedom to choose what is best for their children.

On the pro-life issue, both are in this camp, but Senator Hall is rated 100% pro-life whereas Rep. Burkett is rated 73%. I ask: can a woman be 73% pregnant?

Rep. Burkett fought the Shaeffer Amendment that would have protected ALL baby Texans in the womb by prohibiting late-term abortions. You can hear for yourself her justification for defeating this truly pro-life legislation.

The Schumer Shutdown – What Is The Issue and What Is At Stake

Despite what happened throughout the eight years under Barack Obama, there is a standing tried-and-true process by which we fund the federal government.

Learn how this process works from a guide to the federal budget process prepared by the Washington Post.

What’s behind the #SchumerShutdown?

Mario Murillo says, “The intention of the democratic party is clear: They want votes no matter what the cost. There is nothing noble about what they are doing. They don’t care about poverty, they don’t care about safety, they don’t care about equality. They are in it for votes. Period.” Read more from Mario: THE INTENTION OF THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY, 20 January 2018

In 2012, Forbes Magazine described President Barack Obama as The Biggest Government Spender In World History. Is this true? Was he the biggest spender in history? Let’s examine the record.

On January 20, 2009, when Barack Obama was inaugurated as president, national debt was $10,626,877,048,913.

On January 20, 2017, our national debt was a staggering $19,944,429,217,106.00.

President Barack Obama added more debt than the sum of the 43 previous presidents, from Washington to Bush 43: an increase of $9,317,552,168,000! How did Obama effectively double our national debt? He avoided the proven, historic, and constitutional budget process. Over his eight years in office, the feds were kept on life support through a series of continuing resolutions.

Big Government Democrats love the continuing resolution process and the ridiculous 60-vote rule in the Senate to override a filibuster. Try to find this word ‘filibuster’ in the Constitution. Can’t find it, can you?

The filibuster is a tool of the minority to impose its will on the majority. I say it’s pastobama on ending the filibuster time for the so-called nuclear option whereby the filibuster falls into the dustbin of history.

Who created the nuclear option and has it ever been exercised? Democrats used the nuclear option in 2013 to push through scores of Obama appointees, activists all. ‘Squishy’ Republicans like Lindsey Graham then thought the filibuster a great thing and encouraged Democrats to keep the filibuster.

On 22 Aril 2010, in sworn testimony before the U.S. Senate Committee on Rules and Administration, Sarah A. Binder, a Brookings Institute Senior Fellow on Governance Studies, rehearsed the history of the filibuster. She explained how it was a mistake. Learn more from Testimony: The History of the Filibuster.

The Issue

Democrats want a government so big as to control every aspect of your life.

What is at Stake

National sovereignty and your individual liberty are at risk. As it is written, the borrower is a servant to the lender. Shall we be the servants of communist China?

Action

  • Encourage your two U.S. Senators to call for the nuclear option to kill the Senate filibuster.
  • Pray for your President and all elected officials.
  • Tell the President you want the Senate to exercise the nuclear option.

IF SOCIALISM IS SO GOOD…

si el socialism fuera tan bueno
Translation of statements on graphic:

If socialism were as good as they say,
Berlin wouldn’t have made a wall,
The people wouldn’t have escaped from Cuba on rafts,
And in Venezuela, they wouldn’t be standing in lines for food.
(The little red logo says “No to leftist fanaticism“)

Read a Washington Times article dated 11/4/17 titled: Millennials would rather live in socialist or communist nation than under capitalism: Poll ‘This troubling turn highlights widespread historical illiteracy in American society’

Our three-year-old granddaughter wanted so very much to touch her grandmother’s coffee cup heater. Grandmother repeatedly warned her against touching it, but one day she elected to ignore the warning and laid her hand atop the hot surface. She no longer wishes to touch the cup heater.

Is there a crisis in public and university training in America? Yes, there is a genuine crisis due to historical revisionism.

I experienced my first up-close-and-personal with this crisis in a weekend conversation with my eldest son, then a student at Sul Ross University. We discussed Cuba, a subject dear to my heart. His closing statement to signal his belief he won the debate was: “Well, Dad, you know Castro is the best thing that ever happened to Cuba.” I responded, asking him, “Have you ever talked to any Cubans about this?” He dismissed me, saying I have ignorant opinions.

My eldest son is a product of leftist education from a public university. Over the years, his worldview changed somewhat.

In 1959, Cubans were not hungering for socialism. They just wanted to be rid of the corrupt Batista tyrannical government. Castro promised change. He just didn’t reveal what the change would be and a socialist-communist regime was firmly set in place.
At one point in time, Fidel Castro boasted, “Cuba has the cleanest and most educated prostitutes in the world.” Who are these well-educated prostitutes? They are doctors, nurses, and teachers who supplement their meager socialist income by prostituting themselves to sex tourists. LA Times http://lat.ms/2jdS65C

The poor Venezuelans, on the other hand, welcomed socialism that promised cheap food, ‘affordable’ housing, and free medical care. Hugo Chavez actually placed Cuban administrators into every level of the Venezuelan government and Cuban medical personnel provided the free medical care. For a time, Chavez even flew Mexican patients to Venezuela for free eye care with the end of fomenting a communist takeover of Mexico.

Where is Venezuelan socialism today? Educated Venezuelans, including mothers desperate to feed their children, teachers, and doctors, willingly prostitute themselves. [Miami Herald http://hrld.us/2wOwB03 ]

Millenials are the largest voting bloc in our country.

During Jesus’ three-year ministry on earth, some believed in him, others did not. How could there be any unbelief after all the amazing miracles witnessed by thousands of Jews? I have no qualified answer to this question, but I know a sure-fire experience that removes all doubt. The Apostle Peter and I shared this experience.

Matthew 16:13-17 describes this experience.

When Jesus came to the region of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, “Who do people say the Son of Man is?
They replied, “Some say John the Baptist; others say Elijah; and still others, Jeremiah or one of the prophets.
But what about you?” he asked. “Who do you say I am?
Simon Peter answered, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.
Jesus replied, “Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by flesh and blood, but by my Father in heaven. And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock [of revelation] I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it.

In August of 1974, I experienced this rock of revelation. Nothing and no one can shake me of my belief in the Lord Jesus Christ.

My point: Speaking to like-minded American adults, there is nothing you can say to dissuade most Millenials from their hunger for socialism. But, a divine revelation of truth will ring them all around.

Rabbi Jesus is the way and the truth and the life.

My prayer to God is a request for revelations of truth to the Millenial generation. I see no plan ‘B’.If we wait for them to learn the reality of socialism first-hand, as did Cubans and now Venezuelans, it will be too late to save our beloved country.

Navy Discovers Superiority of Man over Machines

Two peacetime shipwrecks over two months time left 17 sailors dead. How did this happen?

Navy returns to compasses and pencils to help avoid collisions at sea
Read the associated story from the New York Times via this link

Over-reliance on technologies and over-worked personnel are the ingredients for a deadly cocktail. I can personally relate to my own Vietnam War experience. The Norden Company assigned me to the USS Constellation stationed in the Tonkin Gulf.

My workday was typically a 30-hour stint with 4-hour bedrest. I became so weary that I would fall asleep standing in the shower. In the NY Times story, we learn sailors worked 100-hour weeks. A 7-day week spans 168 hours, for your reference.

Due to the turnover of personnel and the cost of training, the Department of Defense charted a course decades ago toward applications of high technologies (automation).

Compare autonomous ship guidance systems to the newest automobiles that can actually park themselves, accurately navigate the nation’s highways, and automatically brake to avoid collisions. Well, almost.

Reliance on artificial intelligence (AI) to autonomously drive the car will inevitably lead to deadly collisions, maimed survivors, and unfathomable legal consequences. If the car’s computer is driving the car, who is liable for accidents? The owner of the vehicle or the manufacturer? It’s reasonable to foresee decades of torts comparable in some respects to the lawsuits against tobacco companies.

The key word is artificial. AI simulates human responses to specific stimuli. Let’s compare artificial intelligence to natural (human) intelligence?

According to Science ABC:

At the time of this writing, the fastest supercomputer in the world is the Tianhe-2 in Guangzhou, China, and has a maximum processing speed of 54.902 petaFLOPS. A petaFLOP is a quadrillion (one thousand trillion) floating point calculations per second. That’s a huge amount of calculations, and yet, that doesn’t even come close to the processing speed of the human brain.

In contrast, our miraculous brains operate on the next order higher. Although it is impossible to precisely calculate, it is postulated that the human brain operates at 1 exaFLOP, which is equivalent to a billion billion calculations per second.

Learn more from Scientific American – Computers versus Brains

Despite how Google, Siri, and other AI technologies astonish you, it is your own brain, that grey matter between your ears you should depend on.

The Navy learned the hard way that there is no substitute for human skill and trained minds.

Immigrants – Who Needs Them?

Debates and discussions on the subject of immigration policies go unresolved due to intransigent postures of the persons on either side of the issue.

us-immigration-and-naturalization

Does the United States of America need immigrants? This is a great question. Let’s ask a few more questions.

What is a sustainable population? For the U.S.A., a sustainable birth rate is 2.1 births per woman. In 2016, our nation’s birth rate was 1.9 births per woman.

us fertility rate 2016

“Today, almost 50% of women between the ages of 25 and 29 are childless. In fact, the highest rate of childless women aged 15 to 44 since the US Census Bureau began tracking it in 1976 was reported in 2014 when 47.6% of American women had no children.” – Population Education

How does the U.S. compare to some other nations? In 2016, the birthrate of Japan was 1.45 births per woman. In Russia, the rate was 1.77 births per woman and 2.18 in Mexico.

Do Immigrants Steal Jobs from Americans? Another great question. Let’s test the job market.

How many posted job openings go unfilled? The following article from Forbes reports,

At a recent media event touting the need for apprentice programs, Donald Trump and his daughter Ivanka pointed to the latest news from the U.S. Department of Labor: There are currently 6 million job openings in the United States.

The data come from the Job Openings and Labor Turnover Survey (JOLTS), which is released monthly. The survey reports an increase of 400,000 job openings at the end of April 2017 as compared to April 2016.

The job market is so strong that businesses and economists believe the inability to find workers is harming economic growth and could encourage companies to move operations. Zimmer Biomet, a maker of artificial orthopedic devices located in Warsaw, Indiana, cannot find sufficient workers for its factory. “It is struggling to find enough workers, despite offering some of the region’s best pay and benefits,” according to the Washington Post.

What is the future of a nation for which the birth rate cannot sustain it?

I propose my fellow Americans set aside intransigence on either side of the immigration issue to take the time to question the present and future of our nation with respect to sustaining the population and our common prosperity.

While our nation was founded on solid Christian principles, the principles don’t fund functions of government. Taxpayers do this. Government tends to uphold spending as the birthrate declines, leaving the next generation of Americans saddled with ever greater levels of taxation.

One can argue that the federal government has an insatiable appetite to spend. While both parties claim to want to reign in spending, both seem to try to outdo the other while in control of Congressional ‘purse strings’.

Debates are healthy because they lead to finding common ground essential to making America great again.

Barack Obama’s Illegitimate ‘Child’

A Little Bit of ObamaCare History

The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act – aka ObamaCare – was passed by both houses of Congress by Democrat votes. Not even one Republican lawmaker voted for it. On March 23, 2010, Barack Obama signed the act into law.

Subsequent to its enactment, insurance rates have skyrocketed, leaving consumers to choose paying penalties they can afford over paying insurance premiums they cannotobamacare just needs a tuneup - nonsense afford.

Major insurers have dropped out of the program due to losses. These include Wellmark Blue Cross and Blue Shield, Humana, Aetna, and United Health.

Illegitimate (Unconstitutional) At Birth

The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (ACA) was passed by both houses of Congress by Democrat majorities. Not even one Republican voted for it. Not one.

When Obama’s legal team argued the ACA before the Supreme Court, the penalties were justified as taxes and Chief Justice John Roberts, voting with the liberals on the court, infamously and erroneously declared the penalties are not taxes and also the penalties are taxes. His appointment as Chief Justice is probably one of the worst decisions of the 43rd president.

“How is ObamaCare unconstitutional?” you ask. Let’s think critically for a moment.

What is the sole purpose of taxation? To raise revenue for governments. Nothing more. Nothing less.

From what part of the U.S. Constitution to we look for authority to levy taxes? Article I, Section 7: “All Bills for raising Revenue shall originate in the House of Representatives; but the Senate may propose or concur with Amendments as on other Bills.”

The mandated penalty originated in the Senate, not in the House. A majority of the court ruled the penalty is taxation. Therefore, the taxation is unconstitutional.

Leading up to the 2016 elections, Republican lawmakers called for repeal of all or parts of the Affordable Care Act. But, now the game is compromise, effectively exchanging ObamaCare for ObamaCare Lite.

The Bottom Line

Why should Congress fully repeal the ACA? For one simple reason: it was an unconstitutional law from the outset. And, not John Roberts and the other liberal SCOTUS justices don’t get to craft law out of thin air.

The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act – ObamaCare – was the illegitimate child of the radically leftist Obama administration and his Democrat congressional majority.

Urgent prayer request – Venezuela has run out of other people’s money

As Margaret Thatcher wisely noted about the end of socialism, “The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people’s money.”

urgent call to prayer for Venezuela
Photo: CBN News

“The South American nation of Venezuela is about to erupt.

“Thousands of citizens are fed up and are now taking to the streets to express their anger and frustration towards President Nicolas Maduro, a man that has forced a sizable portion of the population to go to bed hungry and live without the necessary medications they need to stay alive.

“And according to the Economist, that’s not all, inflation is estimated to exceed 1,600% this year, a situation that will make it even more difficult for the average person to purchase food when it’s available.” CBN News, 12 April 2017 http://tinyurl.com/mxdl94a

no hay comida en Venezuela
Photo: CNN

“To say life is hard in Venezuela is an understatement. The socialist regime has continued to fail their people in every way imaginable. Thousands of natives are forced to stand in lines for necessities like food and medicine. In January the first infant death from starvation in Venezuela this year was reported. Citizens have had to take measures including the consumption of dogs, cats, and exotic animals in an extreme attempt to survive.” – Natural News, 14 February 2017 http://tinyurl.com/l3d4e4k

Most of South America is struggling economically, nutritionally, and spiritually. The empty promises of socialism remind us that socialism shall forever remain an unproven economic theory.

My Cuban friends endured a similar fate after the Soviet Union withdrew its support from that island bastion of socialism.

I invite your prayers of intercession for the desperate people of Venezuela. Their chief need is a nationwide spiritual revival. Between now and such time there comes a spiritual revival, ask the Lord to deliver the people from the ham-fisted tyranny of a socialist government led by a belligerent former bus driver.
