Texas Constitutional Amendments – My Choices

Election? What Election?

Ta-dah! We get to vote on something that’s neither Democrat nor Republican. Out of this last Texas legislature came ten proposed amendments to our Texas Constitution. When you vote, you’ll have only to places to mark your responses: FOR and AGAINST. Hopefully, the next legislature will add “HELL NO”.

Early voting opens today, October 24. Election day, the last opportunity to vote, is November 8. In Rockwall County, explore your sample ballots on the County’s website at http://www.rockwallcountytexas.com/index.aspx?NID=628

So many folks have asked how I will vote, it seemed prudent to just make my votes public by posting a marked-up sample ballot for my precinct 2A. These choices are my own and do not represent any political party or organization. Follow this link to view

Our Enemy Lives

Is Our Enemy Dead?

Americans from all walks of life and national origins converged en masse about “Ground Zero” and the White House to celebrate news of the death of Osama bin Laden. All major networks carried the stories, trumpeting our successful kill of the mastermind of the attack on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon on September 1, 2001. ABC news described it as “jubilation”. What says our instruction manual?

Rejoice not when your enemy falls, and let not your heart be glad when he stumbles or is overthrown, Lest the Lord see it and it be evil in His eyes and displease Him, and He turn away His wrath from him [to expend it upon you, the worse offender]. Proverbs 24:17-18 (AMP)

Who is Our Enemy?

Our enemy was alive long before we killed Osama bin Laden. In fact, our enemy was alive before Hitler was born. He and his army have been around us and with us since the foundations of the world were laid.

For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Ephesians 6:12 (KJV)

Demons and the Prince of Darkness – Satan – these are our enemies. They are invisible. They hate us for being formed in the likeness of God. Our demonic enemies incessantly work against us to steal, kill and destroy.

Subtle Warning

If you believe as I do that there is nothing capricious in nature, that God has woven an intricate tapestry of time which He designed, then you will probably understand the significance of today’s date – May 2, the second day of the month.

When I opened my Heritage Alliance daily prayer guide this morning, I sensed a warning from God. Not for a moment will I say to you that “I heard God speaking to me”. Yet, as someone who believes the Bible literally, everything about life, every detail of history is significant.

Heritage Alliance publishes a prayer calendar that features two government officials, starting with the top two, our President and our respective Governor, on the first of every month, then, in order of succession, two a day through the 30th of the month. If you are not already on the email list, you can enroll by clicking on this link.

Prayer focus for today, the 2nd of May, is the Vice President – the one next to succeed the President. Creepy, you say? Sobering, I say.

Let’s not rejoice over the death of our enemies. Rather, let’s turn our hearts to God with humble attitude and ask Him to be merciful to us. Let’s ask God to turn away his wrath from us, “the worse offender”.

Earned? This is how it works: the IRS distributes money to qualifying taxpayers as though they overpaid taxes. Confused?

So, where does the IRS get the funds to redistribute to folks who don’t pay taxes? Why, from those of us who do pay taxes, of course.

Sounds fishy – what’s the principle behind the EITC? Karl Marx: “From each according to his ability, to each according to his need.” That sounds like socialism, you say, and you are correct – it’s socialism, aka “redistribution of wealth”.

Under this Democrat program, 50-60%, sometimes up to 70%, of a credit cardholder’s debt can be eliminated, if the cardholder owes $10,000, or more. How does this program work? The Feds pay off the debt with “stimulus money”. Understand that this is not money from Heaven, but either the funds come from US Treasury bills (borrowed) or from taxpayers.

This program rewards irresponsible credit cardholders and punishes responsible credit cardholders. So, where does the IRS get the funds to redistribute to folks who don’t pay taxes? Why, from those of us who do pay taxes, of course.

Sounds fishy – what’s the principle behind Obama’s credit card debt relief program? Karl Marx: “From each according to his ability, to each according to his need.” That sounds like socialism, you say, and you are correct – it’s socialism, aka “redistribution of wealth”.

This program is a little different. Instead of robbing taxpayers to give to non-taxpayers, this program helps unqualified home buyers buy a home. Doesn’t make sense? Right.

With the tax credit, a low-income home buyer can afford to make payments for at least one year. What happens after the first year? Don’t you remember Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac?

This program will stall foreclosure rates now, deferring them to another year. An undesirable consequence is it artificially holds home prices above their ‘natural’ price and will greatly contribute to the ‘double-dip’ recession coming to a neighborhood near you, soon.

On Tax Day 2010, approximately 47% of American households paid no income tax whatsoever. How so? Income threshold, tax credits (see above), deductions and exemptions made this possible. Quick minds will see that about half of all American households don’t pay income taxes.

Is this important? Federal income tax generates about $900 billion per year, slightly less than half of all US Government receipts. Because expenditures continue to climb and “poverty level” continues to be elevated, we who pay income taxes must pay more than ever before. Before long, we will be at WW2 levels of income confiscation.

We the People” are the cure. And, yes, you guys who have “good paying government jobs” have no immunity. The time will come when the federal government will be unable to borrow money to pay your salaries and benefits. What do you suppose will happen then? I don’t want to lose you, now. Yes, you will be laid off, fired, rifted, unemployed.

LEARN how government works and get of this “throw the bums out” stupidity. Wise and thoughtful men and women hold elected office and we need them now more than ever.

PARTICIPATE in local government. No, you don’t have to attend every kind of meeting, but you can do something. I personally attend Rockwall City Council meetings and some P & Z committee meetings. For me, County Commissioners Court meetings are difficult, because they are held during prime business hours.

JOIN an appropriate county Republican club. In Rockwall, we have four excellent clubs: Young Republicans, Republican Women’s Club, Republican Men’s Club and the Lunch Bunch. Dues are modest, so modest even unemployed persons can afford to join.

In any wise, these clubs welcome your participation even if you never join as a dues-paying member. The clubs offer opportunities to meet local elected leaders and your neighbors.

In the famous words of former Speaker of the House, Tip O’Neil, “All politics is local”. If you have no influence in your community, why would you expect to influence Austin or Washington, D.C.? </p>

KNOW your candidates; get sample ballots from the Elections Office or a deputized registrar member of the RCRWC.

VOTE – well, you can’t vote, if you’re not registered to vote. In the most recent City of Rockwall municipal elections, fewer than 5% of our registered voters showed up at the polls. Shameful, indeed.

How do I register? Two ways:

  1. Visit the Rockwall County Elections Office, 107 East Kaufman Street, north side of the Historic Courthouse square.
  2. Contact Rockwall County Republican Party Headquarters and a registrar will help you.

2010 November elections will probably mark the “point of no return” for America, as we have known her.

However imperfect you may think some Republican candidates and incumbents; our best opportunity to reverse the Obama-Pelosi-Reid juggernaut lies with the Republican Party. Key to supporting and electing truly conservative Republicans is to know them: their voting records, stated philosophies, etc.

The left wing of the Democrat party has taken America to unparalleled government control of business, education, finance and even real estate sales. Obama’s minions now dictate what foods we eat and what can be sold at garage sales.

RISD Teacher’s Family Needs Our Family

Fund Raiser for Nate Oxford at Chiloso's Mexican Bistro

Nate Oxford, son of Pullen Elementary teacher Jackie Oxford, is undergoing radiation therapy in  Los Angeles where her family is staying in the Ronald McDonald House to be near him.

In December 2008, at the age of 2 years, doctors diagnosed little Nate with medulloblastoma – brain cancer. The cancer spread from his brain to his bones.

We all know someone who has had the cancer experience, so we all know the Oxford family needs the Rockwall family to come alongside. Rockwall County may be the smallest county in the great state of Texas, but we have the biggest hearts.

In the city of Rockwall, Chiloso’s Mexican Bistro has time and again to sown into our community by supporting causes important to us. Nate Oxford’s family is important to us.

Tonight, Wednesday, June 2, Chiloso’s will contribute 20% of all sales to offset Nate’s medical expenses.

Let’s come together “Rockwall Strong” around the Oxford family and enjoy terrific food with our friends and families.

Help Stop Socialism – Work for Liberty in Your Community

Genuine Money - not Monopoly Money

Third-party candidates assure a Democrat majority in government at every level – destiny of disaster. In the years leading up to our great Civil War, liberty-minded Democrats worked to reform the party to no avail. Consequently, a new party, the Free Soil Party, came to life. This breakaway group of conservatives later became known as the Republican Party.

While it is still impossible to reform the Democrats, it is totally possible to reform the Republican Party. How does one go about reforming the GOP?

As the late Thomas P. “Tip” O’Neil famously said, “All politics is local.” If you have no influence in your city, your county, why would you expect to have influence in Washington, D.C.?

I know, I know. Thousands of you write your U.S. Senators and your Representatives – keep it up. But, do you even know the location of your local GOP headquarters? What about the Republican clubs: Men’s, Women’s and Young Republican’s?

Do you vote? And, I mean in ALL elections? Really? … Really? I don’t think so. In fact, I know you don’t all vote in every election. I see records from our local Elections Office – all a matter of public record.

Choices are simple: continue to be ignorant of issues and uninvolved in your community and you will reap the consequences. Or, you can get away from your televisions, video games and favorite sports activities to invest some of your life, your time, in becoming connected with community leadership.

Liberals, communists, socialists and all manner of radical persons have taken up residence in our federal government and many state governments.

Texas has the most Fortune 500 companies of all these 50 states. We have no income tax and the legislature and Gov. Perry passed tort reform that contributes to a healthy business climate.

However, we are not insulated from, nor immune to, economic “bubbles” that have popped in 41 other states. Highly respected economist, the late (2006) Milton Friedman, predicted our present fiscal circumstances: Massive deficits, countries no longer buying our treasury bills (our debt), dramatic increase in the money supply – all leading to massive inflation. Milton predicted that our government would say inflation is no problem at all.

Bob Amick – We Have a Choice

Editor’s note: I am pleased to re-print an email from Col. Bob Amick in support of Jerry Hogan for County Judge.

John Whte

Friends and Associates:

Tomorrow, we have a choice between two qualified candidates.

I have voted for my choice, Jerry Hogan, because I strongly believe that he is the BEST QUALIFIED.

Jerry completed a “first” career as an “authoritarian leader” in our Army Special Forces. Be assured that if he would have applied “Obama like” consensus building to his assigned missions, he would still be waiting to pursue the enemy…in the military and in the civilian world we don’t have the luxury of deferring decisions until we have “consensus of the committee”. Simply stated, a leader must lead…not wait on a committee to defer and delay. Jerry’s leadership style is such that he makes decisions that reflect the will of the people, and does so in a manner that is truly conservative…not progressive!

My request to each of you is simple…please vote tomorrow…and if you agree with my position, vote for Jerry Hogan. His success in leading large groups of people (more than 2) is documented. Rockwall County needs Jerry’s expertise..NOW!

Rockwall County Judge – My Choice

Giving Thanks

We citizens of Rockwall County are a blessed people. Hall marks of our matchless quality of life are generosity, superb leaders, and wonderful neighbors.

Jerry Hogan and Kevin Fowler are two gentlemen for whom I am thankful. It was my privilege to serve on the 2008 Road Bond committee with the two of them. We worked together for a successful outcome.

My Choice

I write to endorse Jerry Hogan for Rockwall County Judge.

Setting aside political rhetoric, claims and counter claims, I weigh the ideas and pledges of the two candidates.

Kevin pledges to be a consensus builder on Commissioners Court. Jerry Pledges to work to be a watchdog, a steward of our County tax dollars.

Over My Shoulder a Backward Glance

Was it not a consensus of the Court that overruled the will of the people, not once, but twice? The ageless wisdom of Ronald Reagan comes to mind:

“From time to time, we have been tempted to believe that society has become too complex to be managed by self-rule, that government by an elite group is superior to government for, by, and of the people. But if no one among us is capable of governing himself, then who among us has the capacity to govern someone else?” — First Inaugural Address, January 20th 1981

Leadership vs. Consensus

In every successful organization we find a leader who has the gifts and callings to discern right from wrong and to fearlessly chart a course for a desirable outcome. We need a leader who understands our form of government – a democratic republic that derives its power to govern from the governed.

The Court twice failed to represent the will of the people, with respect to the new courthouse. Members of the Court behaved as an elite group superior to government for, by, and of the people.

Jerry, I believe, understands the importance of citizen participation in County government and his pledge toward fiscal responsibility is credible.

I ask you to vote for Jerry Hogan, Rockwall County Judge.
