Why do Democrats wish to eliminate the Electoral College process for electing presidents? Imagine all presidential elections decided by New York and California.
The Electoral College provides a balance between the states and the populations of the several states. Naturally, the more populous states have more Electors than less populous states, but each state has at least two electors. Elimination of the Electoral College process would make 46 states somewhat irrelevant in presidential elections.
Democracy assures tyranny. Republican (the form, not the party) government serves to preserve the rule of law. Let's repeal the 17th Amendment while time remains to do so.
We're at a point in our history when we must ask ourselves, do we want to keep it, the republic, the rule of law? Or, do we want to settle for the tyranny of either a democracy that is simply 'mob rule' or a dictatorship.
